Welcome to my Unofficial Cambridge City Football Club web site. This year is our Centenary and many celebrations will take place which I hope to capture and feature as they happen. My site is in its 5th season and yet again I have updated the site which I hope you will find easier to navigate. I will have more archived material from years past, old programme covers, downloads on previous match programmes in full colour and a chance to see some video action from the terraces. For easy access to all other Southern League Premier Clubs, just hit the links button. This site was moved here on 5 December 2005. Formerly at www.cambscityfc.tk

TURUNC CELEBRATES TURKISH VICTORY

Turunc wallpaper-SMALL
ME AND APPedited-1

Yours truly with our friend Appo in Turunc

When the Turks have something to celebrate they do it in style. During the Euro 2008 campaign Turkey rode their luck to the semi finals of the competition, winning many games by scoring in late in the game. When they took on Croatia in the quarter finals the whole village was watching. I had never expected to see the style of celebrations that is considered normal in this wonderful country, but it was a lot of fun. Needless to say to lose to a bad German side in the semis must have hurt many Turkish fans. A small video of the street celebrations is here

ADVERTISING SPACE KICKING OFF

I am pleased to announce the first paid advert on this site has been signed up. At £10 a season I aim to have 20 subscribers on the site and so far there has been some good interest shown. Can I urge all fans to talk to their local shops and businesses and present them with the flier (see Advertising page) which explains the scheme. A new web directory page will be created to expand on the advertised logos which may carry a photo, opening times and services.

Please help me to help City this season.

WELCOME NEIL SHARP TO CITY

Being demoted wasn’t the best feeling we have had to endure these last few months, but the signings Gary is managing to secure for next season is bringing a ray of sunshine (and we need that badly too!!).

Welcome to a very good signing in Neil Sharp to City. Neil played in the heroic FAC game against Liverpool last season and is very well respected by the fans and club at Havant. Formerly a Barry and Merthyr player, he was signed by Colin Addison on the 24th October 2001 for Swansea. He joined the Hawks in 2004 and was ever present for them last season, playing 33 times in the league campaign, which saw the Hawks finish a strong 7th.

We all look forward meeting you Neil and hope you enjoy your stay with us

KICKED IN THE GOOLIES

So we had a “fair hearing” at the FA’s headquarters in Soho Sq this week ? Well it seems to me that the old farts at the FA haven’t a clue what’s happening at grass routes level, because if they did they would not impose such ridiculous ground standards on clubs like ourselves. The average attendance last year in the BSS was about 450, so why would any club want terracing and another set of turn stiles which accommodates attendance’s of 3000 ?? Its bloody ridiculous to ask clubs, who struggle to exist to spend money they haven’t got for no good reason. Ok, all clubs in the BSS except ourselves did just that, and I am sure the grounds look better for it, but these terraces and entrance gates will hardly ever be used. Its a joke and shows us how out of touch the FA is with clubs at our level. its like a punishment for all clubs, and especially us, who have received no sympathy.

For us it was a case where we couldn’t build even if we wanted to ‘cos Bubsy wouldn’t give us the permission, in fact it seems impossible to even have communication with the landlord, so how were we to upgrade the ground anyway ? With 2 years left until the 2010 deadline hits us, there would be little point in spending money on terracing anyway.

So what happens now ? Well we must carry on but with even more determination than last year to keep this club of ours afloat. There are many people who want us dead, so we must seriously disappoint them. It is very confusing as to what will happen to us. Supposedly the Cambridge Council Planning says we cannot more from the ground until “suitably re-located”, but I know Bubsy isn’t looking to relocate us, other than to a coffin. Can we negotiate a deal beyond 2010 ? I doubt if BY will allow us any more time at MR and will be rubbing his hands will glee, at our imposing death.

Certainly land values for housing have fallen, so MR cannot be worth as much, but I cannot see him giving up this land to anyone, until he has seen us off for good. So whatever can and will happen is hard to predict, but as long as we have Gary and the lads playing good football we have a club, and one where we should enjoy every moment.
