So we had a “fair hearing” at the FA’s headquarters in Soho Sq this week ? Well it seems to me that the old farts at the FA haven’t a clue what’s happening at grass routes level, because if they did they would not impose such ridiculous ground standards on clubs like ourselves. The average attendance last year in the BSS was about 450, so why would any club want terracing and another set of turn stiles which accommodates attendance’s of 3000 ?? Its bloody ridiculous to ask clubs, who struggle to exist to spend money they haven’t got for no good reason. Ok, all clubs in the BSS except ourselves did just that, and I am sure the grounds look better for it, but these terraces and entrance gates will hardly ever be used. Its a joke and shows us how out of touch the FA is with clubs at our level. its like a punishment for all clubs, and especially us, who have received no sympathy.
For us it was a case where we couldn’t build even if we wanted to ‘cos Bubsy wouldn’t give us the permission, in fact it seems impossible to even have communication with the landlord, so how were we to upgrade the ground anyway ? With 2 years left until the 2010 deadline hits us, there would be little point in spending money on terracing anyway.
So what happens now ? Well we must carry on but with even more determination than last year to keep this club of ours afloat. There are many people who want us dead, so we must seriously disappoint them. It is very confusing as to what will happen to us. Supposedly the Cambridge Council Planning says we cannot more from the ground until “suitably re-located”, but I know Bubsy isn’t looking to relocate us, other than to a coffin. Can we negotiate a deal beyond 2010 ? I doubt if BY will allow us any more time at MR and will be rubbing his hands will glee, at our imposing death.
Certainly land values for housing have fallen, so MR cannot be worth as much, but I cannot see him giving up this land to anyone, until he has seen us off for good. So whatever can and will happen is hard to predict, but as long as we have Gary and the lads playing good football we have a club, and one where we should enjoy every moment.
